Duality

Abstract

Digital information has been overlaid on physical objects through wearable translucent displays (so-called optical see-through Augmented Reality (AR) and by embedding technologies in artefacts, but there is little research on augmenting physical objects with spatial offsets between the user, the display and the object. 'Duality' is a demonstration of our work on translucent displays. We have experimented with different input techniques (wiimote, image processing) and different display techniques (parallax compensation, depth-based selection feedback, lenticular lenses). Example applications that might use an offset translucent display include ‘cabinets of curiosity’ in museums, libraries, vending machines and retail shop fronts.
