Tom Carter

PhD Research Student"

Introduction

Tom is a PhD student who spends his time investigating novel uses of ultrasound. His focus is on designing and creating creating interactive systems featuring multi-point, mid-air haptic feedback. The goal is for users to be able to "walk up and use" these systems, meaning they require no training and the user does not need any tools or attachments to experience the tactile sensations. More information on this project can be found on the project page at www.ultrahaptics.com or by clicking on the UltraHaptics project below. As an undergrad, Tom created Ultra-Tangibles, a system which uses ultrasound to move ordinary objects around an interactive surface. Enabling the computer to move tangible objects creates a richer, 2-way interaction between the user and the application. More information can be found on the Ultra-Tangibles project page.
