Jess McIntosh

PhD Student"

Introduction

Jess is an EPSRC funded PhD student. He began working under the supervision of prof. Sriram Subrimanian initially, then was later supervised by prof. Mike Fraser. His research is about exploring methods for detecting hand gestures, with a particular focus on the ergonomics and practicality of such devices. One key aspect of this is to make sure these sensing techniques can integrate with wrist-worn devices, in order to meet the requirements of a socially acceptable form factor. His other research interests include object recognition and generic ultrasound sensing and actuating systems. He has previously studied a Masters in computer science at the University of Bristol.

Outside of work, Jess enjoys playing table tennis and although he should probably stick to spectating, also tries to play football.
