Introduction

Elaine’s route to computer science is circuitous, starting in the United States with a BA in Classical and Near Eastern Archaeology at Bryn Mawr College.  Recognising that modern technology could be used to provide information about the past, she followed up her MA in Archaeology for Screen Media with a PhD at the University of Bristol investigating visitor reception to location-based interpretation at archaeological and heritage sites.  Her current work examines how technology can be used to support sustainability, ranging from the use of crowdsourcing to keep doors closed, to how open-home events can spread the word about energy efficiency measures.
