Introduction

Elaine is a Ph.D. candidate under the advisory of Dr. Oussama Metatla and Dr. Paul Marshall. Her research interests focus on designing multimodal technology for older adults with dementia to support social interaction and engagement in activities.

Her master’s project centered on designing and developing a multimodal memory album. This project was awarded first place for the CHI Student Design Competition 2019. This work also led to an exploration into using haptic technologies for cognitive therapy. She also led and helped design a “Storyliving” Workshop which helped promote community story exploration and building the creative confidence of older adults.

Her current research deals with developing a framework for design community spaces and programming that is more inclusive of those with differing sensory sensitives and cognitive abilities.
